Montauk Trout

Last week, we and another couple spent a few days trout fishing in southern Missouri.  Montauk State Park has the clear Current River runnin' through it and is daily stocked with rainbow and brown trout.  The early morning siren at 6:30 signals the beginning of the fishing day.  That is the time when the newly-released trout are at their dumbest and damn well will hit on anything in the water!  After an hour, though, the little buggers wise-up and become vinicky to all lures and flies.  At that point it becomes a match of will-power--who will win: the mighty rainbow or me, the fisherman?  All four of us, including Bag and Debbie, came home with enough trout to nearly limit out each day.

There he stands, draped in more equipment than a telephone lineman, trying to outwit an organism with a brain no bigger than a breadcrumb, and getting licked in the process.
