The rrrrrrrrrrrr....of the Hummingbirds !

On our kitchen window is attached a hummingbird feeder; it provides delightful minutes of on-the-spot bird-watching.  The hummingbirds are oblivious to my washing dishes, preparing meals, etc.  Did you know that  a hummingbird can rotate its wings in a circle, they are the only bird that can fly forwards, backwards, up, down ,sideways and  hover in mid air?  Because they beat their wings 80 times a second, it is difficult to capture them with a camera.   The birds are highly territorial, and thus don't share the feeder.  I am enjoying 'em while they last--migration to Mexico is right around the corner!  Ferris Bueller said life goes quickly.  We need to stop and check out the small stuff before it ends!

Houseboating!

We have retired to Carlyle Lake, and while it is "Our Lake", generally the water is quite muddy and rough from the winds.  Not our first choice for boating and fishing.  So, with that in mind, you can see why we love traveling to our southern neighboring state of Missouri to enjoy its crystal clear waters.  The rock bluffs on its shoreline only enhances its beauty and the clarity of its waters.  Last week we spent a week boating and partying on Table Rock Lake.  A friend, Shawn W.,  invited us to celebrate his  50th birthday aboard a 62-foot houseboat.  Family and friends help to make Shawn's birthday (and his marriage proposal to Sabra!) one to remember!

Rite of Passage

In the wee hours of Sunday morning, Larry's step-dad passed away.  Today would've been his 80th birthday.  Vic has been the only father-in-law I have known; he's been in the family since Larry's teen-age years and so has played the role of "dad"  forever.  None of the four boys ever called him that, but he raised the sons as if his own and deserves our respect and love.  Hats off to you, Vic!  Loretta is now by your side.

I never got to choose you
You just became my 'dad'
So I'm grateful to my mother
For the great taste that she had.
